Paris is a major character in the Mission: Impossible franchise. She first appears as the secondary antagonist of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning and will return in its sequel, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

Biography[]

Enforcer for the Entity[]

Chase of Ethan Hunt[]

Who is that person!?
I have no idea.

Grace and Ethan Hunt, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning

Paris first accompanied Gabriel when he was sent to the airport where a buyer for one of the key halves was present. She covertly killed the buyer, but he did not have the key half on him. In fact, the key half was with Grace, who had been hired by an unknown employer to take it from Ethan Hunt before he or anyone else could deliver it to the buyer.

After Grace boarded a plane to Rome and Ethan Hunt followed her there, Gabriel and Paris made their way there as well. Paris led a team of goons to the site of a stand-off between, Ethan and Grace, US agents Jasper Briggs and Degas, and the Italian police. After she and her goons exited their armored vehicle, Paris opened fire on the police, leading to a shoot-out that gave Ethan and Grace time to drive away in a stolen police car. Undeterred, Paris got back into the armored vehicle and drove after them, plowing through cars and other obstacles that were in her way. However, Ethan and Grace were able to evade her by switching to a smaller car and driving through a narrow pass that her armored vehicle could not fit through.

Venice Party Meeting[]

Paris then accompanied Gabriel as he attended a party organized by the White Widow (who revealed herself to be Grace's employer) and the Entity to discuss the sale of the two halves of the key. She stayed hidden in the crowd at first, but showed herself to the IMF as soon as they arrived. When Ethan attacked the White Widow's goons to buy Ilsa and Grace time to escape, Paris took part in the skirmish to try and hold back Ethan while Gabriel pursued Grace. Although Ethan was able to escape the party and chase after Gabriel, the Entity hacked his communications and led him into a narrow alleyway where Paris and another goon had prepared an ambush for him. Despite being outnumbered, Ethan was able to fight them both off, but chose to spare Paris's life.

Infiltrating the Orient Express[]

You must be the one they call Paris.

Denlinger to Paris, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning

Paris then boarded the Orient Express, the location where the transaction of the completed key was to take place, and went to retrieve Gabriel, who had also infiltrated the train by hiding in a large suitcase with an oxygen mask on. After Paris opened the suitcase, she went with Gabriel to sabotage the train's emergency break as part of the Entity's carefully calculated plan. Along the way, the two met with Denlinger, who revealed himself to be the one who caused the Entity to go rogue and transform into its current state. Denlinger proposed an alliance between himself and Gabriel, but Gabriel refused and killed him instead, before turning around and stabbing Paris, deducing she would betray him as well, before leaving her for dead.

Redemption[]

Bonne chance. (Good luck.)

–Paris to Ethan Hunt, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning

However, Paris was able to muster up the strength to get up and later saved Ethan and Grace from falling after Gabriel blew up the train bridge. Paris then revealed to Ethan that the chamber the key unlocked was on board the crashed Sevastapol submarine before becoming delirious due to blood loss. However, when Jasper Briggs and Degas came across her body, Degas checked her and discovered she still had a pulse.

Characteristics[]

Personality[]

Paris is a skilled combatant who revels in violence and enjoys getting to fight others. She is ruthless when carrying out the missions she is assigned and shows no hesitancy in plowing through whatever obstacles are in her way, as shown by her driving her armored vehicle through numerous cars and other objects in her pursuit of Ethan and Grace during the chase in Rome. Although Paris is a merciless individual, she is someone who repays kindness shown to her, as seen by her saving Ethan (although it's unclear whether this was because he spared her or simply an act of spite against Gabriel for betraying her).

Abilities[]

  • Physical strength and endurance: Paris shows enough physical toughness and combat prowess to be able to hold her own in hand-to-hand fights against much larger and stronger opponents, even being able to overpower multiple opponents at once.
  • Close Quarters Combat: Paris is highly skilled at both hand-to-hand and melee fights, able to stand her ground with just her fists and with improvised melee weapons, such as the lead pipe she wields against Ethan.
  • Vehicular Maneuverability: Paris demonstrates impressive skill at driving motor vehicles. During the chase in Rome, she was able to expertly steer her armored vehicle while in pursuit of Ethan and Grace, plowing through various obstacles and moving around whatever obstacles she couldn't drive through.

Movie Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • Along with Solomon Lane, White Widow, Zola Mitsopolis and her former employer Gabriel, Paris is one of the five villains of the Mission: Impossible film series who appears in more than one film.
  • Actress Pom Klementieff was given creative freedom by director Christopher McQuarrie and producer Tom Cruise to develop Paris by building the character around her abilities and anything she brought together through ongoing conversations, allowing her to improvise some of her scenes.
    • Reportedly, this also included asking Cruise to kick her in the stomach for real when filming a fight scene, which he refused to do.
  • She shares her name with the same character, The Great Paris, that Leonard Nimoy played in the 1966 Mission: Impossible TV series.
